What is CLARIFY!, you may ask?  Well, CLARIFY! (which is spelled incorrectly if it is not in all capitol letters with the exclamation point) is a blog for which any and all members of LARP United may write!  It is here to cover any aspects of LARPing that could be interesting.  Players and game owners may muse on weapon building, costuming, game writing, module running, managing NPCs, managing PCs, and anything else you can possibly think of.

How do I become a writer?

treasure_chestThat’s simple!  Simply fill out the form below, and you can be fast on your way to becoming an author for CLARIFY!  Your name will be attached to the article as an author, and you will be added to the CLARIFY! author’s section.  If you are a first-time author, please take great care in filling out the “About You” sections of the form, as they will be published on the site as well.  If you have already been published on LARP United, then simply type “Existing Author” into the “About You” section, and go about your day.

What do I write About?

You can write about anything LARP related, provided the content is not mean or deliberately bashing a game, person, or subset of people (race, gender, age, etc.)  If you are going to write about sensitive topics (race, gender, dark themes, or problems that regularly occur in LARPs) we ask that you keep your articles respectful and polite.  LARP United’s moderators reserve the right to refuse to publish any article.

Accepted Articles

If you submit an article, and the article is accepted and scheduled for publishing, you will be contacted via e-mail and asked to verify your information.  Once we e-mail you, we ask for a response in 1-3 business days to confirm your article, and any edits (for spelling and grammar) that our Editors have suggested.

Convention Suggestions

If you want to help bring new games into LARP United, you are more than welcome to do so!  Anything that you think will be a good idea to draw more people into this community is encouraged.  You never need permission to do a panel at a convention saying what we are and why this… (Club?  Is this a club?)  …why this community is awesome, or helpful.

If you want to work together with other LARP United games that are attending your convention, and do special things to bring more players to the fold, by all means!  This is a community of equals, and anything that you can think of to promote it is great.  You can post in the facebook groups about upcoming events and conventions, and see who wants to join in.

Some ideas for Conventions:

T-0001-LU-LAYON-Red(Please feel free to write the webmaster, or leave comments to suggest more!)

  • Games or mods run by multiple LARPs
  • NPCing for other LARP United games at Conventions, and asking if they will NPC at yours, so you have more cast
  • Games that go on between multiple tables, for example: a scavenger hunt between multiple tables, or a competition that utilizes random con-goers
  • Throwing Spell Packets at fellow LARP United players… Then getting yelled at, probably.
  • Accepting questions and discussing LARP United with games that are not currently in the community.

What is LARP United?

What is LARP United? Well, at its core, LARP United is based on the idea that LARPs and LARPers should be a collective community where everyone welcomes each other and comes together in friendship and alliance. The idea is to grow the LARPing subculture in its entirety and to cross-promote the various different LARPs that partake in this unity in order to maximize exposure and bring the various wonderful worlds that each individual LARP creates to as many people of this amazing subculture as possible.

With this mindset in place, LARP United is a quite literally a unique community comprised of people who own or primarily run their own games and share this unique vision of LARPing as a community. Each of these people represent their own specific game as an organization within the LARP United community and the LARP United Community works together to build LARP United itself and to help each respective game grow and become better as well.

One way that LARP United helps each respective LARP grow is by encouraging specific LARPS within LARP United to provide incentives for people who attend other games to come to their own game, but to also provide incentives for their own players to attend other LARPs within the LARP United community. The specific incentives provided by each LARP would be entirely determined by the respective LARPs themselves through communication and agreement with each other. This sort of alliance helps build the communities between multiple games and supports growth for everyone. Another way that LARP United helps each other is by providing advice, exchanging tips and ideas, and just being a great place for LARP leaders to get support from each other!

If this kind of a community is a place that you would like your LARP to be a part of and this outlook on LARPing in general is an ideal that you identify with, then we urge you to reach out to us so that our community can grow and so that all of us can grow with it! Happy LARPing!

Why Should My Game Join?

We LOVE the same thing!

We share a hobby.  There are so many LARPers out there, and not only can we learn new tricks or ways to run mods/games, but we can also burn off steam at another game.  As a game owner, I can certainly say that I get stressed on a regular basis, always doing the work for the game and rarely able to kick back and relax.  Being able to go to another game is amazing, but sometimes I feel like a stranger at other games, or even an intruder.  LARP United encourages open sharing of players and ideas, and it gives a player a list of places that he or she can go where they will not only be welcome, but encouraged to multi-LARP!

More cash flow to your game.

Even if you only get one or two players occasionally visiting your game from others, it is still more cash flow.  Usually when people go visiting other games they bring a crowd with them.  Everyone likes to go visiting games with a small army, so it means that, here and there, you will get a surprise influx of fresh blood!

New players bring fresh ideas.

More important, I feel, than the cash flow is the fresh look at the game.  New people means new ideas and fresh faces.  New people bring different twists to story lines, different reactions to NPCs, and new people to talk to around the fire when the NPCs go to bed.  I find that a fresh look at my game often tells me things that I would not normally notice.  Sometimes things as small as something hard to understand in the rules, sometimes as huge as a new way to utilize our equipment and decorations!

Advertising And Announcements

When you become a member of LARP United, one of your owners is invited to be an author on the site.  You get to make posts before and after each of your events to tell the community what you are up to, offer special bonuses, or just to make the announcement!  We also have a number of vendors that work with the LARP United games.  If you know any small or local vendors who would want to be a part of the community, let us know!

We have on LARP United a blog we call Clarify!  This blog is written by the owners and players of the various LU games, and comes with tips and tricks for games, opinions on stats and costumes, and sometimes even instructional photo-galleries for how to make props, weapons and more!  When you become an author on the LU website you automatically gain the ability to post in the Clarify!  Blog, and share your own ideas with the LARPing Community.

What if my game cannot afford a discount?

The benefit that you offer to other gamers does not have to be a monetary discount.  There are plenty of things that your game can offer, and you only offer what you think your game can support!

  • Little, one use items
  • Clean-Up Waiver
  • Mandatory NPC Shift Waiver
  • Some extra gold at each event
  • One or two extra points of some sort
  • Service points
  • Unlockable races
  • Minor nobility

Anything that could encourage other players to come try your game, or encourage your players to go visit other games will work!  It doesn’t have to be much.

When do I start?

As soon as you want!  As soon as you can get in contact with us about what kind of incentives that you want to have for LARP United players, we will be delighted to have you in the team!  Once you are a part of LARP United, you will be added to this site as a contributor and can make posts and changes to assist in your game being highly visible amongst the community!

What Benefits should I Offer?

We ask that each game that joins LARP United do two things:

Offer a bonus to players who attend at least one other LARP United game since your last event

Display the LARP United link prominently on your website.  If not on the home page, at least somewhere easy to find.

Many games offer different bonuses, whatever your game feels it can do is amazing.  Some ideas that we have below

  • Little, one use items
  • Clean-Up Waiver
  • Mandatory NPC Shift Waiver
  • Some extra gold at each event
  • One or two extra points of some sort
  • Service points
  • Unlockable races
  • Minor nobility

Anything that could encourage other players to come try your game, or encourage your players to go visit other games will work!  It doesn’t have to be much.

What is LARP United?

LARP United is an organization of LARPs all across the US (and hopefully someday, the world) that believe all of LARPing is one community. Our games agree to encourage their players to visit other games, share ideas and energy, and help the community at large grow and prosper.

Games in LARP United offer incentives for visiting other games, and for players from other games to visit yours. Each game offers some bonus to a player who has, since your game’s previous event, gone to ANY other LARP United game. These bonuses can be whatever the game prefers!

We know that the community grows, changes and learns, and the only way for any game to benefit from this is if we share knowledge, players, and fun! Any LARP can join LARP United, and it is as easy as filling out one form!

How can my LARP Join?

It is as easy as filling out a simple form, and then your game chooses what kind of benefit to give to players who attend another LARP United game between events.  LARP United does not ask for more of its members than a simple benefit, a link on your website, and that you provide an environment where players from all games are made welcome.  If you want to be more involved in the community, you are obviously welcome to do so, and your level of involvement is entirely up to you.

For more information, check out our guidelines and benefits to becoming part of LARP United!

CLARIFY! is a blog about LARPing: running events, managing NPCs, being a Player, costuming, NPCing, and many other concepts.

All of our game owners are welcome to write for CLARIFY! and if you have a few ideas you would like to get out there, you are welcome to do so as well! Please check our CLARIFY! section for an application for articles and ideas.

Event Dates

We try to announce the dates of upcoming events at least 10 days before the events happen.  To be sure that your game’s dates are announced in their own posts, please be sure to have your game submit the dates to the webmaster, with appropriate paragraphs about the events in question.  All events can be submitted at the beginning of the year.
